>For routine Feline Neuters;

Prior to your pets surgery you want to withhold food for 12 hours & no water the morning of the surgery. On your appointment date be sure to allow 20-30 minutes to fill out pre-surgical paperwork & meet with the doctor for the pre-surgical exam, if time is an issue we offer Express Check-Ins see the link below. If you would like to streamline this process you can fill out the paperwork at home & bring it with you, the link is provided at the bottom to print the form.

Your pet will be ready to go home the same day, give us a call around 2pm and we can provide you with a pickup time. Once they are home there are a few recommendations;

-No food until the following morning, the stomach takes longer to recover from anesthesia

-You can offer 1 or 2 tablespoons of water after 8:00pm but no more

-Please keep your cat in its carrier or at least separated from all other pets in your household for the first night

-Your cat can eat and drink normally the following morning

-No bathing for at least 3 days and also keep your cat inside for a least 3 days

There are no sutures for routine neuters but we encourage you to bring your pet back for a routine free recheck 3-4 days post surgery Also feel free to give us a call if you have any concerns or questions.

After surgery your pets dietary needs change, typically they need 10-30% less food to maintain a healthy weight. To ensure that your pets weight doesn't become an issue monitor the weight and if there is a noticeable gain we can help you figure out your pets new dietary needs.

 Express Surigcal Check-In

Here at Willamette Valley Animal Hospital we understand that sometimes dropping your pet off for surgery between 8am - 9am just isn't possible. In an effort to make scheduling easier we are offering express check-ins from 7:30am - 8am.

To qualify for this we must have information for the patient if this is going to be their first visit, anesthetic paperwork, and a good contact number where we can reach you so the Doctor is able to contact you with any questions after they have examined your pet.

To make your check-in as quick as possible you can complete those necessary check-in forms at home. Click on the link below & fill out the "Anesthesia Release Form". If this is your pets first visit to us also fill out the appropriate Check-In form.

See you for your appointment

We have listed some of the most common surgical procedures & their home care instructions. If you are having a different surgery or have an exotic pet please call us before your surgery to go over preparations.

Our clinic believes in keeping pets flea free, because of this when your pet is in for surgery if fleas are found we will treat them with the option you have approved.

Other Decisions to Consider

While your pet is under anesthesia you may want to consider having our Doctors complete other procedures your pet may need. These procedures would include dental cleaning, lump removals, ear cleanings or implanting a microchip.

If you are able to combine two procedures that would normally each require anesthesia your pet would benefit by not having to go under anesthesia as many times, and you would benefit since you would only have to pay for anesthesia once.
